Do Not Mess With The Running Gods

Well, the running gods decided to punish me. Yesterday we were had a 40 minute run on the schedule. However, since there was a race in the park, we didn't have the group run. After yoga yesterday, I decided that I was going to wait until today to run.

I decided that I was going to run The Big Ditch Run. I got there at about 8:20. I use my phone for music and my smartrunner app. I put my phone in my armband holder and I took my key off of my key ring and put it in the pocket on the holder. I started my music, but the volume wouldn't work. It's been acting funky since it was in my pocket in the down pour on Wednesday. So I took off my headphones and put them in the armband pocket. It didn't take long to realize that running on a gravel trail is more challenging than the flat ground. I thought to myself "This is going to be a long run!"

When I reached my turnaround point I looked and I had run 0.7 miles. Then and there I decided that I wasn't going to do 40 minutes and I would be done when I got back to my car. Since I had my phone out I thought that I might try to see if the volume would work and it did! In a fit of excitement I grabbed out my headphones as fast as I could, plugged them in, and the they wouldn't play. So I put them back in the pocket and continued to run. I was so happy when I got back to my car! I stopped my smartrunner app. I had run 1.5 miles in about 25 minutes. I got into the pocket to get my key, and to my absolute horror, it wasn't there! Shit! It must've fallen out when I got my headphones out.

So I started walking back scanning the ground as I went. I got to where I thought it must've fallen out, and couldn't find it. I walked all the way to where I turned around and started back.

My heart was filled with despair and I was nearly in tears! We do not have a spare key. Not only that, but Paul's car is dead and we have yet to get a new one. I had no idea what we were going to do, but I knew it would be expensive. To have someone come out and make a new key on freaking Easter?! I was almost back at my car and I looked down and I saw this:
My heart jumped with joy! Thank you running gods! I promise to never disobey you again!
